HLNDV MLK Day Service Event Lends Many Hands

HLNDV MLK Day Service Event Lends Many Hands!

On Saturday, January 13, the HLNDV Community Service Committee was pleased to support the non-profit organization Share Food Program in Philadelphia as a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Service Event. The Share Food Program takes food donations from local businesses, farms and food drives and distributes millions of pounds of food to hundreds of thousands of neighbors in need. Started in 1986, the Share Food Program fights food insecurity in the region through donations of food and volunteer time.

The event took place at Share’s Warehouse where HLNDV volunteers helped with tasks like:

  • Packing up DoorDash cars with Senior Food Box Program boxes to be delivered to recipients
  • Sorting fresh produce from Nice Roots Farm, Philly Food Rescues, and other donors in preparation for DoorDash deliveries
  • Cleaning/organizing to aid in warehouse maintenance

The HLNDV team led by Donna Walsh had a great time in a fast-paced packing sessions that day. They reported that “…it felt great to be a part of this important local fight against hunger.”
